Little Art House: On the Go!

Little Art House On the Go

We always knew we wanted to be a brick and mortar location. In fact, it didn’t even cross our minds to do anything other than open a location but almost immediately we realized there was a need for our services to be mobile. We realized that art making wasn’t part of everyone’s repertoire and it also takes a lot of time planning, prepping, and it’s difficult to run a project/activity and enjoy the party or focus on the birthday kiddo.

As emails and requests came in during those first few years, we would say yes to basically anything and then figure out how to make it happen. We didn’t have a clear system on the logistics but we did always strive to offer an excellent experience. We often made just enough money to cover costs since we spent so much time planning, prepping, packing, and then putting on the event.

Even with all the planning, we still have to figure things out on the fly sometimes.  At parks, water isn’t always accessible so we have to be sure we have a plan if water cups are needed, dirty brushes to be washed once we’re back at home or the studio, or how to make awesome projects that don’t require water at all. Since we don’t provide chairs/tables or handle the general set up for parties, we are as flexible as we possibly can be on the set ups wherever we may be. That has proven to have its own curveballs, like creating on a blanket in 98 degree weather or squeezing in over 20 teenagers around three small tables :). Every situation gives us a chance to practice what we teach, problem solving with creative solutions!

Over the years, we’ve really honed in on our options for OTGs. We now know the questions to ask and exactly what to do to make the experience as seamless as possible. It is always an adventure going to someone’s house, a local park, or country club for an event but it’s an adventure we’re up for.

This was one element that was extremely helpful during Covid and early post-Covid times.  OTG Private Lessons, where we come to you, are the ultimate convenience.  We bring everything (or you can have your own stash of materials) and you or your artist can continue working on your project after we’ve left.  This is also ideal for sewing if you have a machine at home or interest in a really specific or complicated medium!  We still offer private lessons On-the-Go and try to fit them in wherever we can!

Overall, we have a variety of OTG options, including birthday party options, private lessons, corporate events, and if a request doesn’t fit neatly into one of these categories, we still usually find a way to make it happen. As part of our Art for All mission, making art accessible includes bringing art to you, wherever you are!  Should you find yourself in need of an art station or activity for your event, we’re just one email away :)
